The present study aimed to analyze the behavior of the rice import process into Peru and its impact on regional production, particularly in the Loreto region, in the year 2020. The research emerged from observation of the related problem. The work was based on theoretical foundations such as the value chain and foreign trade. The population studied consisted of foreign trade operations between Peru and other countries. A retrospective research approach was used with a descriptive and non-experimental research design. For the research procedure, the technique of consolidating and tabulating information was used. Descriptive statistics were used for the analysis, employing measures such as averages, standard deviation, and coefficient of variation. Finally, it was found that rice production in Loreto has decreased due to rice imports. China and Saudi Arabia showed an increase in rice imports between 2018 and 2020 at the global level, with the former increasing by 6.53% and 5.03% and the latter increasing by 6.06% and 6.45%, respectively. Regarding rice exports, India and Vietnam showed an increase between 2018 and 2020, with the former increasing by 31.80% and 36.29% and the latter increasing by 11.44% and 11.45%, respectively. Additionally, Uruguay and Brazil are countries with higher levels of imports from Peru. In conclusion, the import activity generates a significant impact on rice production and consumption, as the low prices of the exported products leave local producers behind.
