The Pacific Ring of Fire is responsible for 90% of earthquakes, posing a significant risk to Peru, particularly in Lima, which has experienced a seismic silence of 278 years. Self-construction in this region often results in housing with low seismic capacity. This research focuses on analyzing three buildings that have changed their structural category in order to determine initial factors for a change of use. Through a technical analysis of the structural change of use, significant increases in the weight and resistance of the buildings have been identified when transitioning from category C to categories B and A. Parameters for weight increase of 18.35% and 20.20% were established for the transitions from C to B and from C to A, respectively, along with factors of 1.1835 and 1.2020 to facilitate the determination of the weight increase of the structure. In terms of resistance, the factors of increase for the X-axis are 1.2416 for category B and 1.2724 for category A. Similarly, the factors for the Y-axis are 1.1904 for B and 1.2930 for A. These findings highlight the importance of considering these factors when making a change in the use of a structure.
