The objective of this research work was to establish the relationship that exists between the motivation for academic achievement and the development of basic competencies for research in the students of the Professional School of Initial Education, the present study was approached with a correlational approach. for the purpose and design, non-experimental; finally, due to temporality, cross-sectional. The population was delimited by the students of the EP of Initial Education and is equivalent to 83 collaborating students. As final conclusions, I can affirm that: There is sample evidence to affirm that the proportion of students with regular to high motivation is greater than the proportion of students who have a low level of motivation. Likewise, of the total number of students surveyed in the EP. In Initial Education, 75.90% consider that their level of motivation for academic achievement is regular, 15.66% show a low level and only 8.43% show that their level of motivation is high. Regarding the variable basic skills for research, 68.67% consider that these are regular, 22.89% consider that the level is low and only 8.43% consider that the level is high.
