The aim of this research was to determine that reading comprehension is an essential skill in the learning process and in daily life, since it is impossible to understand anything without it. Unfortunately, many people underestimate its importance and associate it only with reading paragraphs, texts or books, when in reality it is also crucial in learning mathematics. To understand anything, there are some aspects that need to be considered: the text, the reader and the context. International organizations measure this skill with global assessments; one of these is the Programme for International Student Assessment, known as PISA. The results help us to improve the level of education in each country. Giving importance to this problem, the Council of Europe finds it necessary to create a common instrument that defines the level of a language user, with comprehension being one of those components to be measured. Cambridge University has been using these references for the last few years and developing assessments according to the levels of the users. The best assessment for this research is the KEY, so students in the fourth cycle of the English-French course at the National University of Education must have, at least, user level A2. The most important division presented with respect to the level of reading comprehension speaks of three levels: literal, inferential and critical.
