The objective of this research work entitled "Improving Critical Thinking Skills in Primary Teacher Training Students at the Octavio Matta Contreras Higher Education Institute" conducted in Cutervo in 2016, aimed to identify an effective pedagogical approach to address the lack of critical thinking skills prevalent among the majority of young people pursuing higher education. The thesis adopted a positivist or quantitative methodology, specifically an explanatory causal design with quasi-experimental characteristics. The study used two complete groups and was based on sociocultural theory, dialectical logic theory, and Liudu theory as theoretical frameworks. The sample size of the study was composed of 44 students, with 22 students assigned to the experimental group and 22 to the control group. The intervention program was implemented in a total of 110 teaching hours, from April to November 2017, in two academic cycles. The data collected were subjected to statistical analysis to process, interpret, and draw conclusions. The findings indicate a significant impact of historical text comprehension on the critical thinking skills of seventh cycle students, with a calculated value of 6.6597 points, exceeding the critical value of 1.6839 (according to the "t" distribution table) at a confidence level of 0.05.
