The objective of this research work is to explore the role of schema theory in the Peruvian context, specifically in a private university in Lima. A non-probabilistic sample was used, which included three groups of 62 students. The objective of the study was to establish the relationship between schemas and reading comprehension in English IV students at the Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola, La Molina, 2019. The study was quantitative descriptive and the descriptive method and a correlational design were used. For this study, two instruments were designed: the Schema Test and the Reading Comprehension Test. Both were validated through expert judgment and a reliability test through the Kuder Richardson test, in which 0.791 (strong reliability) was obtained for the Schema Test and 0.812 (strong reliability) for the Reading Comprehension Test. After testing the hypotheses, we concluded that these were valid since we obtained a Spearman's Rho correlation coefficient of 0.654, which demonstrates a high relationship between the variables.
