To determine the level of knowledge about Eating Disorders (ED) and its association with the risk of suffering from them in university students in Piura. Material and methods: Analytical cross-sectional study in students from three universities in Piura of their respective faculties of human medicine. A virtual questionnaire was used. The ""Eating Attitudes Test-26 (EAT-26)"" scale and the ""Eating Disorders Knowledge Scale"" were evaluated. Data were collected on sociodemographic characteristics, body self-perception, family pathological history, educational characteristics, and mental health. Prevalence ratios with 95% confidence intervals were calculated using Poisson regressions with robust variance for the analysis of the level of knowledge about eating disorders and their association with the risk of suffering from them. Results: In the 225 participants included, the prevalence of eating disorders was 25.5%. The risk of eating disorders was more frequent in participants between 18 and 20 years of age (40.7%, p<0.001), female (35.4%, p=0.03), marital status (64.3%, p=0.005), type of public university (45.3%, p<0.001), third year of study (46.3%, p=0.02), personal history of eating disorders (37.9%, p=0.02), while it was less frequent in participants with a high level of knowledge (18.9%, p=0.003). The level of knowledge about eating disorders was significantly associated with the risk of eating disorders (aPR 0.53, 95% CI 0.33 -0.84, p = 0.007), according to multivariate regression analysis. Conclusions: The level of knowledge about eating disorders is independently associated with the risk of suffering from them in university students
