Family-owned companies are the type of companies with the greatest presence in the world's economies. These companies are very complex because they are dependent on a family team. A critical moment in them is when the leader announces his retirement from the organization, since the founders must transfer knowledge and values to the new members of the family who are joining the leadership roles. Some studies reveal that the mortality rate in this type of company reaches up to 70% approximately when experiencing the succession processes from the first to the second generation. Globally, family businesses contribute greatly to economic and social development. In Peru, these companies represent 80% of the formal business fabric and contribute 60% to employment generation and GDP. Due to the relevance of these companies in the economy, this research work has been carried out under a quantitative approach and focuses on the design of an instrument that has been validated by experts applying Cronbach's Alpha methodology. Its reliability indicates that its design is useful for future research for a correlational study to learn about the benefits of sustainability in the succession processes of family businesses.
