Inventory management is one of the biggest challenges for logistics operators. Today, warehouses managed by logistics operators present the following problems: lack of accuracy in inventory, cluttered shelves, obsolete products, expired products, and others. In our research project, the company under study has as its main problem: the low level of service. The causes of these are the problems mentioned in the first paragraph. These causes have generated that some orders processed present errors and are returned to be sent again or are rejected in their entirety losing thus the entire sale. Therefore, it was necessary to investigate techniques that contribute with the improvement in the level of service. According to all the information collected, it has been shown that the vast majority of logistics operators implement the lean philosophy (5s, Poka Yoke, JIT, SMED, etc.) and other inventory management tools (cycle counting, inventory control method, etc.) to counter the above problem. For the case of our research project two tools will be applied: Cycle counting and 5S. The first is a continuous physical counting process with an established frequency and is performed only for a sample of all items. The second ensures the organization of resources and the improvement of processes. The application of these two techniques is supported by scientific articles that show that their implementation contributes to improving the level of service. Finally, the operational validation had to be carried out through a pilot test and the economic validation by using the economic flow so that it can be evidenced that the project is viable.
