-- One of the complications arising fron the prolonged stay in bed in adults, specifically at the skin and skeletal muscle, are called pressure ulcers, in which the family plays an important role in the care to have in preventing them, as they constitute the best support for the recovery of his patient. To which the nurses Hill be responsable for its preparation, providing general knowledge and specific, that achieved the active participation of the family group to contribute to the decrease of pressure ulcers and complications resulting from the prolonged stay in bed. In this regard the present study titled, knowledge who have relatives on the prevention of pressure ulcers in patients with prolonged stay in bed in the service of Medicine HNDAC – 2006, was designed to determine the knowlegde og relatives on the prevention of pressure ulcers in patients ith prolonged stay in bed. The study was level application, quantitative, descriptive cross-sectional method. The population was componed of 50 family medicine service. The instrument used was a questionnaire and interview technique. The findings of this study were: the level of knowlegde of the families about care in the prevention of pressure ulcers, 50 (100%), 29 (58%) show a level of knowleged médium and 11 (22%) Ander and 10 (20%) high. When it concluded that the majority of families have a level of knowledge about half of care in the prevention of pressure ulcers.
