Population aging brings great challenges to society. Objective: To determine the overload of the family caregiver in the care of the elderly with chronic disease in the geriatrics service of the Hospital Nacional Arzobispo Loayza- 2022. Methodology: Basic research, descriptive level, quantitative approach, non-experimental cross-sectional or transectional design. The sampling was non-probabilistic, by convenience. The study sample consisted of 84 family caregivers of elderly people with chronic diseases. Data collection was carried out through the application of the Zarit Caregiver Overload Scale, which consists of 22 questions. Results: 39.3% of the caregivers showed no caregiver overload, 33.3% showed severe caregiver overload and 27.4% showed mild caregiver overload. In the caregiving impact dimension, 41.7% are in intense overload, 39.3% show no overload. In the dimension quality of the interpersonal relationship, 76.2% showed no overload. In the dimension expectation of self-efficacy 66.7 % have a level of intense overload. Conclusions: The overload of the family caregiver of the older adult with chronic disease in the geriatrics service of the National Hospital Arzobispo Loayza - 2022 was located in absence of overload in 39.3% (33) of the cases. However, 60.7% (51) of family caregivers presented some level of overload.
