Objective: To describe the association of occupational exposure to formaldehyde on lung cancer risk by synthesizing evidence in systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods: This is a systematic review. Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science and EMBASE are the bibliographic databases in which the search was performed. All those studies that met the following criteria were included: 1) Observational studies (cohort or case control); 2) Studies that evaluated the association of occupational exposure to formaldehyde on the risk of lung cancer. At the beginning, 336 studies were obtained in different databases.A search strategy was applied witch keywords (“Iung cancer”) AND (“occupational exposure”) AND (formaldehyde). The NewcastleOttawa Scale (NOS) tool was used for risk of bias assessment. Results: Ten studies were included in the systematic review. Formaldehyde was found to increase the likelihood of lung cancer compared to control (OR 2.95; 95%CI 2.33-3.74; p=0.0001). Conclusion: A strong association was found between occupational exposure to formaldehyde and lung cancer risk.
