In order to evaluate glutamine and glutamic acid supplementation and its effect on productive and economic performance, 64 guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus) from the Peru breed were used, weaned at 15 days of age. The guinea pigs were distributed through a completely randomized design in four treatments (0, 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6% inclusion of glutamine and glutamic acid respectively) with four replications. The formulated diets covered the nutritional and energy needs with the same value. The average initial weight was 318 grams and the evaluation were realized in two phases: beginning (15-29 days) and growth-finish (30-65 days). The results were analyzed through regression analysis of variance. Significant differences were seen in both phases (beginning and growth / finish) for weight gain and feed conversion without affecting feed intake versus the base diet, obtaining greater profitability in the supplemented guinea pigs. It is concluded that the inclusion of glutamine and glutamic acid in the diet of guinea pigs weaned early at levels of 0.2%, 0.4% and 0.6% improves productive and economic performance.
