The current research named as “Measurement of the Carbon footprint in the Perforation of a Natural Gas Well in the Peruvian Tropical Rainforest” took place in the facilities of the company in charge of the perforation of a Natural Gas well, in the low valley of the Urubamba river, district of Echarate, province of La Concepción, region of Cusco, using the information generated in the period July 2011 – June 2012.The tested methodology is the one proposed by the Greenhouse Gases Guidelines of Coorporative Inventory for the Oil and Gas industrial sector, from the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association- IPIECA, which defines the most important sources of greenhouse gases within the Petroleum industry. In that way, for the purposes of this work, it was used the Compendium of Methodologies for Calculation of Greenhouse gases Emissions, for the Oil and Gas industrial sector from The American Petroleum Institute (API). On the basis of the tested methodology, the obtained final result was 66,859.97 tCO2eq during the period July 2011- June 2012, in the perforation of such natural gas well, in the Peruvian rainforest, being the air transport – helicopter- the most important contributor of Greenhouse gases (GHG), with proximately 93.812% of the total carbon footprint. Besides, it was found that the second most important contributor was the use of fossil fuels for electricity with proximately 5.666% of the total emissions. It was concluded that the activity of natural gas well perforation in the the Peruvian rainforest is an activity that generates huge amounts of GHG. Therefore, it must be considered as a priority, for the companies involved in this industry, to implement a system of Carbon footprint measurement. Also, to put into practice the necessary policies to reduce or compensate their carbon emissions, in order to contribute in the reduction of the climate change effects and encourage a rational usage of natural resources.
