This paper offers a review of the main theoretical contributions and research related to the performance of the university teacher, as well as the competences that must be developed in a 21st century context. The theoretical framework developed presents the current situation in which the service of higher education, such as the university, is developed and, within them, the university teacher as the person in charge of achieving the competencies required by the student to pursue a specific career. Given the demand of society with respect to the university, the teacher must develop skills that allow it to be consistent with the aspirations of students and the world of work, faced with this situation at the Continental University as part of its policies has defined "development of the best teachers "as a strategic objective, to provide a quality education. The objective of this work is to propose the teaching mentoring program to improve the teaching performance in the student perception, the academic planning and the didactic execution; so that the mentored teachers have a good experience and natural development in the teaching practice, thanks to the support and guidance of the expert (mentor).
