This research examines the impact of fluctuations in the international price of oil on inflationary expectations in Peru during the period 2002-2021. Using an Autoregressive Vector (VAR) model and data from the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) and World Bank inflation expectations survey, the analysis reveals a significant relationship between changes in oil prices and inflation expectations in different sectors. The research is descriptive-correlational, has a quantitative approach, an explained scope and a non- experimental design. The quantitative results show that an increase in the price of oil is associated with a 0.31% increase in the inflation expectations of the financial sector. Similarly, inflation expectations among economic analysts register an increase of 0.24% in response to variations in the price of oil. However, no significant impact on the inflation expectations of non-financial companies is detected. This study provides a detailed understanding of how variations in a key external factor, such as the price of oil, can influence inflationary expectations in different segments of the Peruvian economy.
