Introduction: High blood pressure is one of the diseases that causes and affects an average of 40% of the population, its complications being one of the 10 main causes of death in the world. It has been observed in Latin America that 8 out of 10 patients have poor adherence, which is why it has not been possible to have effective control of this disease and its complications, which is why evaluating the factors, including one that is little researched such as personality traits, could allow us to close gaps in the future control of arterial hypertension. Objective: Determine the influence of personality traits on adherence to pharmacological treatment in patients with high blood pressure at the HNAGV. Material and Methods: Exploratory observational cross-sectional study, in which two surveys were applied, one of personality traits of 10 questions and another of adherence to treatment with 4 questions that was applied to 154 patients with high blood pressure from the outpatient cardiology clinic of the HNAGV. Those patients diagnosed with primary high blood pressure were considered. who have not had psychological controls prior to their evaluation. Results: The age group with the greatest predominance was the elderly with 70.1%, considering the female gender with 67.5%, it was seen that 83.8% of patients presented non-adherence to treatment, within the personality traits that influence AHT, it was seen that the personality trait responsibility presents an influence on adherence to treatment with a chi square of 8.61, a p of 0.013 and coefficient C of -0.230, while the personality trait neuroticism presented an influence with chi square of 6.316, with p of 0.043 and coefficient C of -0.198, while in general personality traits present an influence on AHT with a chi square of 4.14, p of 0.042 and coefficient C of -0.162.Conclusions: it was determined that the studied population lacks adherence to treatment, personality traits do influence adherence to pharmacological treatment in patients with arterial hypertension of the cardiology service of the Adolfo Guevara Velasco hospital and it was determined that the traits Personality, responsibility and neuroticism are those that have the greatest influence on treatment adherence.
