This study aims to establish the relationship between basic needs and academic performance of fifth-cycle students in the Escuela Profesional de Contabilidad at the Universidad Andina del Cusco during the 2020-II semester. The general research question is: What is the relationship between basic needs and academic performance of fifth-cycle students in the Escuela Profesional de Contabilidad at the Universidad Andina del Cusco during the 2020-II semester? The hypothesis is that there is a moderate positive correlation between the students' basic needs and their academic performance. The methodological design is descriptive and correlational, using a non-experimental cross-sectional approach, a probabilistic sample of 57 students, and a validated questionnaire to measure the students' basic needs. The data will be analyzed using inferential and descriptive statistical techniques. The results show a very low correlation between basic needs and academic performance, suggesting that basic needs are not a significant predictor of academic performance in this specific population during this period. However, it is necessary to replicate this study under more normal circumstances of the learning and academic performance evaluation scenario to obtain more accurate and comparable results.
