This research work focuses on the development of a control model for over-breaking of the rock mass in an underground mine in Peru, using the controlled blasting technique with rubber mattresses in horizontal work. The main objective of the research was to mitigate the risks associated with overbreaking and improve the efficiency and safety of mining operations. Firstly, an exhaustive analysis of the existing literature on controlled blasting techniques and their application in horizontal works was carried out. Best practices were identified and the benefits and limitations of using rubber mattresses as an element to control overbreakage were evaluated. Next, a control model was designed and implemented, including the selection of blasting parameters, such as explosive charge, detonation sequence, and arrangement of rubber cushions. Tests were carried out in horizontal works of the mine, recording vibration and deformation data of the rock mass with the use of the seismograph. The results obtained demonstrated that the use of rubber mattresses in combination with an adequate selection of blasting parameters allowed the over-breaking of the rock mass to be significantly reduced. A decrease in vibration and deformation levels will be observed, which will help ensure the stability of horizontal works and improve the safety of workers and equipment. In addition, practical recommendations were developed for the implementation of the control model in the mine, considering technical, logistical and economic aspects. These recommendations were based on the results obtained and the experience acquired during the research.
