In the present investigation, the evaluation of the risk linked to biological agents was developed at the UNI Medical Center, for which the application of a qualitative trend methodology was carried out, which involves the incorporation of procedures proposed by recognized international entities such as the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Valencian Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (INVASSAT). These procedures were developed under an approach that made possible to effectively apply them in the abovementioned medical center. Thus, the biological risk assessment was addressed using the Biogaval methodology, which offers a suitable application considering the nature of the activities carried out at the UNI medical center. This was supplemented by guidelines issued by NIOSH and OSHA regarding the risk of inhalation of pathogens in healthcare facilities. Through the procedures carried out, the microorganisms considered relevant for the biological risk analysis were determined, which were chosen taking into account their transmissibility, close link with the nature of the activities evaluated, degree of significance at the national level at present, transmission route (air), among other factors. After evaluating the data and obtaining the results, we addressed the final stage of this study, which is the development of a Respiratory Biosecurity Plan with measures to minimize the risk of acquiring diseases due to potentially dangerous microorganisms in the air, in accordance with the conclusions collected from the analyzes carried out. The biosecurity program derived from the results of this research was designed by developing a model that responds to the specific characteristics of the UNI Medical Center, according to standards and policies of organizations such as The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), as well as national regulations.
