The present research consists of the evaluation of welding variables and parameters to improve the quality of welded joints, using ASME manufacturing codes and complementing with recommended practices from entities such as API and NACE to raise the degree of quality and ensure the integrity in operation of the welded joint. For this research, a low alloy steel A335 Gr. P22 and a stainless steel A312- TP321 were used as base materials to join, the data collected was obtained in the qualification of a welding procedure for the construction project of an oil refinery, destructive and non-destructive tests were proposed to evaluate the quality of the welded joint. For the qualification of the procedure, the welding parameters established in the research work were used, the welding was started maintaining a preheating temperature until the end, after the welding, the dehydrogenation treatment was carried out to continue with the thermal treatment of stress relief. Penetrating dye tests and radiographic inspection were performed to ensure that the test coupon was free of discontinuities before being sent to the laboratory for mechanical tests. With the results issued by the laboratory, it was concluded that the correct evaluation of the variables and parameters of welding ensured the quality of the welded joint.
