Female representation is a subject that has gained traction in the last few years, especially into the ever growing and successful genre of superheroes. This genre stood out for its lack of female leading roles until 2017, when Patty Jenkin’s Wonder Woman was released. Starred by Gal Gadot, it broke with the male dominated casting that had been characterizing the genre since its beginnings in the 1970s. The purpose of this study is to analyze the perception of the young female audience from Metropolitan Lima about the female representation of this movie and genre. Therefore, a qualitative study was made based on semi structured interviews to 19 young women from Metropolitan Lima, 3 experts from the Film industry and 2 gender and teaching experts. As a result, it was shown that accurate female representation in leading roles is significantly important for the young female audience from Lima, and that Wonder Woman takes an aspirational role for them. However, this character idealization can create false expectations for this young audience.
