The main objective of this research is to study the influence that the addition of granular rubber has on the subgrade of a road made up of clayey soil, of low bearing capacity, located at km 5 of the Santo Tomás highway, in the district of San Juan Bautista, province of Maynas, department of Loreto. During the initial tests, it was obtained that the clay, is classified according to USCS as a CL soil, presents BCT values, both for the altered condition, of 6.5%; and in its natural composition, of 5.9%. Granular rubber from end-of-life tires is considered an environmentally polluting material. Therefore, one of the purposes is also to use this material as an improvement agent and indirectly the research contributes to preserve and save the environment. In addition, the laboratory tests provided favorable results for the condition of the soil in its natural composition with the increase of the bearing capacity (BCT). Analyzing the effects of the improvement, it was determined that the optimum granular rubber content is 5%, increasing 50% of its natural clay bearing capacity; that is, it improved to 8.6% of BCT. This result exceeds the minimum percentage established by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, transforming an insufficient subgrade into a regular subgrade that can be used for road purposes.
