The objective of this research was to determine the psychometric properties of the Parental Bonding Instrument (Amézquita, 2013) in young university students from Lima; providing evidence of validity based on the internal structure, in relation to another variable and on the reliability of the scores. The type of design is instrumental and the sample consisted of 280 students, where 70% were women and 30% men, aged between 18 and 25 years. The validity in relation to another variable was verified with the Family Communication Scale (Copez-Lonzoy et al., 2016) adapted in Lima. After several confirmatory factorial analyses, it was found that a structure of two correlated factors (M11) presented adequate goodness-of-fit indices for both mothers (TLI = .98; CFI = .99; SRMR = .05; RMSEA = .07) as parents (TLI = .98; CFI = .98; SRMR = .05; RMSEA = .08). An adequate level of internal consistency was obtained using the McDonald omega coefficient for both (> .76). And in relation to another variable, direct correlations were found between care and autonomy with communication; although they were low (r = .18) and medium (r = .38). In conclusion, the version of the Parental Bonding Instrument developed by Amézquita (2013) is valid and reliable only if it is presented through a specific model, since it has instability in its internal structure related to the different phrasing of the items. Therefore, further research is recommended to corroborate the results obtained.
