The main objective of this research was to analyze the relationship between the implementation of lean manufacturing and the sustainability of companies in the plastic industry located in Lima in 2022. This work assumes that the lean manufacturing methodology is based on a culture of improvement and that its success will depend on the minimization of activities without added value; additionally, sustainability refers to manufacturing or production using techniques, strategies, and activities that reduce environmental impact and value the well-being of stakeholders. The research used a quantitative methodological approach and the sample consisted of 101 medium and large companies in the plastic industry in Lima. A 25-item questionnaire was applied to these companies (16 for the lean manufacturing variable and 9 for the sustainability variable). The Covariance based Structural Equation Modeling (CB-SEM) was used. Through the statistical analysis, it was concluded that the positive relationship (r= 0.909) between the implementation of lean manufacturing and the sustainability of the plastic industry companies located in Lima in 2022 presented a significance of 0.000, therefore, the general null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative general hypothesis was accepted. With these results, it can be asserted that when lean manufacturing is implemented in companies, they improve their sustainability from the perspective of three very important factors: social, environmental and economic. In light of the analysis carried out in this research, lean manufacturing and the sustainability of companies have a significant, directly proportional and high-grade relationship.
