Young student’s health of universities in Metropolitan Lima needs an empirical input because it is affected physically, socially and psychologically. That is why the purpose of this research is to analyze the relationship between rumination and harmful alcohol drinking in this population. Two hundred eighty students were evaluated (M = 20.50 age, SD = 2.23, 63.57% of women) during the first four years of their professional career, through a non-probabilistic sampling by convenience, with the Ruminative Response Scale (RRS) and the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). The analysis of the psychometric properties were carried out: as an evidence of validity, an exploratory factor analysis, and the reliability of the variable scores were estimated using the internal consistency method and through the calculation of the ordinal alpha and omega coefficients. A positive and statistically significant association was found between harmful drinking and one of the two dimensions of rumination called “Brooding”. This correlation exists since the two share “non-adaptability” as the main characteristic.
