The purpose of the study was to determine the difference of the level of gingival inflammation in users of hormonal contraceptives pregnant, in the CC.SS. San Juan in 2009. The sample was constituted by 256 women (139 pregnant, 73 users of injectable contraceptives and 44 ussers of oral contraceptives). The investigation design was not experimental, descriptive comparative; for it was measured it the level of gingival inflammation by means of the index of LOE AND SILNESS validated by the use. The following variables were controlled: bacteria! badge, pregnancy trimester and time of consumption of contraceptives. The results that we obtained were: The average of level of gingival inflammation for the pregnant was 1.04 and for the users ofhormonal contraceptives was 1.13. The bacteria! badge average for the pregnant was 1.1 7; and for the users of hormonal contraceptives was 1.13 (injectable contraceptives 1.1 O and oral contraceptives 1.16). The contrast of the average of index gingival between hormonal contraceptives users with the average of the gingival index in pregnant women, carried out with the test "t" of Student, shows that the tc=2, 62 value is bigger than ta=l, 96; for that the altemative hypothesis is accepted (Ha) that there is a difference in the leve! of gingival inflammation between hormonal contraceptives users and pregnant women. Then, the gingival inflammation in the hormonal contraceptives users with an average of index gingival of 1,13 is bigger to the pregnant women that ha ve an average of index gingival of 1 ,04, 5% of statistical level significance.
