Audio description (henceforth AD) is an audiovisual translation (TAV) technique that aims for visually impaired people to have access to audiovisual material. This study analyzes the transfer of communication functions of the Peruvian film Juliana (1989) to the audio descriptive script made in Peru. This study analyzes the strategies of audio description used in the film. Additionally, a contrastive analysis of the communication functions in the source and target texts is made. For this purpose, an analysis of the film language in the target text was performed and analysis sheets that describe the main elements of AD were used: characters, actions and setting. The methodology used for the analysis of this case is qualitative, based in the textual contrastive analysis. The results show a tendency for the objective description that fit the theory about quality in AD. On the other hand, when the film incorporates extradiegetic music as a framework of scenes expressing sadness, the use of subjective description is noticed. In this way, we conclude that this audio descriptive script incorporates its interpretation of the film according to is genre: melodrama.
