There is evidence of a low level wind flow called the South American jet stream (SALLJ), with a distance of approximately 5 414 km that crosses the countries of Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Paraguay. Its fundamental role is the distribution of moisture over the southern countries, showing greater activity during the southern summer, such is the case in Argentina, where SALLJ generates large rainfall over the La Plata river basin. Likewise, it is a moisture transport mechanism that is generated on the eastern side of the Andes mountain range, interacting with topography, thermal contrast between surfaces during the day and night, and atmosphere modulators such as the pressure gradient , among others. Thus, this study considers the database of the Global Forecast System (GFS) atmospheric model in the runs of 00, 06, 12 and 18 UTC and accumulated precipitation data estimated by the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM satellite) ) during the southern summers from 2005 to 2014. The Weibull distribution was used for the statistical analysis of the southern southern wind data and a non-parametric statistical Kendall correlation test to associate the SALLJ events defined by the Whiteman criteria (1997) and Bonner (1968). Finally, the synoptic conditions of the characteristic systems that develop during the southern summer were analyzed, such as the High of Bolivia (AB), the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and the South Atlantic Anticyclone (ASA), which act as factors in the development of convective systems. An average of the northern component winds between 1.2 and 11.7 m / s was found with variations of +/- 3.2 m / s, registering a maximum wind of 21.4 m / s. Of the criteria used in the methodology, proposed by Whiteman (1997) and Bonner (1968), 53.8 percent and 46.2 percent, respectively, of the identified cases were characterized.
