The research aims to describe the characteristics and beliefs of gender violence in the university community at the Andean University of Cusco; understanding ‘university community’ as teachers, students and administrative staff. The methodology is descriptive, non-experimental, mixed type, with a predominance of the qualitative aspect, based on the Critical Communicative Methodology. The sample is 160 people, of which, 8,8% are Teachers, 5% Administrative, and 86,2% Students, selected in a simple random way for the quantitative part and for convenience for the qualitative one. The results and conclusions show that coercive verbal behaviors (86%) are the most common form of psychological violence, sexual harassment (48,5%) of sexual violence. In symbolic violence, mobility restriction (92,6%), sexist language (90.4%) and gender roles and stereotypes (86,4%), are the most common modalities. Utility Micromachisms (75,7%) and Undercover (66,9%) are the most frequent. The former couple, friend, co-worker or studies and the Professor, are the main aggressors. Beliefs based on psychosocial differences exalt male and female values, which promote the exclusion of one of the two genders; those based on the biological differences of men and women persist in maintaining that these differences are the basis of their way of thinking, acting or unfolding within a society that sees both sexes differently, according to socialization patterns; and, those related to the empowerment of women, persist in avoiding the participation of women in the productive and academic fields.
