Abstract: The objective was to determine the antibacterial effectiveness of the endodontic cement Apexit plus and Sealapex added with two antibiotics separately against Enterococcus faecalis, resistant bacteria and directly associated with endodontic failure. In the methodology strains of Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212 were used, which were cultivated reactivated in three agar culture medium Tripticase agar, Blood agar and bile agar esculin, bacteria were also inoculated in brain-heart infusion broth (BHI) with chloride of sodium at 6.5% at a temperature of 37ºC, and incubated for 24 hours. 50μl of BHI was dispersed in 60 Petri dishes of Mueller Hinton agar. Then we proceeded to make 5 holes or wells per plate. The antibiotics were added separately to the endodontic cement Apexit plus and Sealapex in concentrations of 5%, 10% and 25%, and were placed in the wells of the Petri dishes. As a control group, endodontic cements without additive and calcium hydroxide powder were used with physiological saline. In total, 300 halos of inhibition were examined, which were measured at 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours finding no significant differences between the 3 times. The results showed that of all the combinations with ciprofloxacin present the best antibacterial effectiveness. It was found that the group Sealapex with Tetracycline has no antibacterial effect. The conclusion reached is that the combination of endodontic cement Sealapex added with ciprofloxacin offers more effective antibacterial results in vitro against strains of Enterococcus faecalis.
