The objective of the research was to determine the study habits and their influence on academic performance in the area of communication students 5th. “A“ and “B“ of the secondary level of the Basic Education I. E. Joint Integrated Huanoquite - Paruro, Cusco 2012, to propose alternatives to increased student achievement. The type and design was descriptive and correlational research. The population consisted of 50 students from taking the 5th “A“ and “B“ The sampling was not probabilistic convenience, we applied the study habits inventory of Luis Alberto Vicuna Peri and academic performance was considered the average were consolidated according to the minutes of qualifying. As a result it was found that the highest percentage of students come from Huanoquite, the age group is 17 to 18 years both male and female, as the students study habits 5th “A“ show better study habits unlike students 5th “B“, obtaining a satisfactory achievement between regular and satisfactory, while students of the 5th “B“ are located within a regularly achieving satisfactory to poor learning. By relating the study habits to academic performance shows significant correlation between them, therefore, we accept the hypothesis of correlational research. These results lead to reflection to design a strategy for working methodological study habits from the student's admission to school in order to improve academic performance, so we can say that the greater presence of good study habits will get better results in academic performance, a lower frequency of study habits lower academic performance, therefore, is given as valid hypothesis.
