The quality of surface water in slow and lotic systems is a very important parameter that allows us to know the state of the water, and that anthropic activities alter their natural conditions, thus the objective of the work was to evaluate the relationship between water quality and caffeine level as an emerging pollutant during temporary and longitudinal monitoring, in the sub-basin of the Chumbao River, of the Pampas basin, Andahuaylas, Apurimac, Peru, for the period 2018 – 2019. Physicochemical parameters were determined classified as: oxygen level (OD, BOD, COD), trophic level (Nitrate, Nitrite, Ammonium, phosphates), physical characteristics (Temperature, Turbidity, STD, Color), dissolved substances (Alkalinity, Hardness, Chlorides , pH, Conductivity), microbiological bioindicators, for which colorimetric methods based on the APHA methodology were used, the level of caffeine was also determined by chromatography, and the water quality index - ICA according to NSF and Dinius, the analyzes were performed in triplicate, and the data were analyzed through a bifactorial ANOVA and comparison of Tukey mean at 5% significance. It was observed that the predominant use of water from the Chumbao river sub-basin is oriented towards limited agriculture, limited pasture and urbanization; The oxygen level, trophic level, physical characteristics and microbiology bioindicators are increased downstream for all seasons, showing significant difference between sampling points and seasons (p-value <0.05), while in the slow and adjacent points to the basin header the study parameters are within the ECA, and as it crosses the urban area the levels are higher than the limits established by the ECA; in terms of caffeine levels, it was observed that it increases along the river, the urbanized areas presenting a higher level, in the same way it was observed that there are significant differences between seasons (p-value <0.05), and that during the dry season there was a higher concentration, with levels up to 25.64 ± 0.40 ug / L; As for the ICA it is distributed in two categories Good and Very bad or Excellent and Excessively contaminated for aquatic life, although in the lagoons of Pampahuasi and Poccoccocha they present excellent quality, observing lower quality for the seasons of estiaje, it was also observed that the ICA in the seasons show high inverse correlation (Rs> 0.70), that is to say that the ICA decreased with the increase in the level of caffeine.
