The purpose of this research project was to determine correlation curves between the water / cement ratio and the axial compressive strength of the mortar for the "El Gavilán" and Bazán quarries. The dosage used was cement:sand 1:4 constant, with variable water / cement ratios of 0.7, 0.8, 0.9, 1. In the preparation of the study samples was used Cement Portland Composite Type ICo conformal to standard NTP 334.090, potable water and fine aggregate (coarse sand), from the city of Cajamarca, both on the hill and in the river, respectively, of the aforementioned quarries. The characterization tests of the fine aggregates were developed with the use of protocols, such as: Moisture Content (MTC E 108 / ASTM D2216 / NTP 339.127), Granulometric Analysis (MTC E 204 / ASTM C136 / NTP 400.012), Module of Fineness, Amount of fine material passing through the No. 200 sieve (MTC E 202 - ASTM C117 - NTP 400,018), Specific gravity and Absorption (MTC E 205 / ASTM C128 / NTP 400,022) and Loose Volume Unit Weight (PUSS) and Compacted (PUCS) (MTC E 203 / ASTM C29 / NTP 400.017). For the realization of the test pieces and the test of resistance to axial compression of the mortar, the regulations were used (MTC E609 - ASTM C109 - NTP 334.051). The test pieces used were of cubic dimensions of 5 x 5 x 5 cm, cured in a calcium hydroxide solution and tested at ages of 7,14 and 28 days. Reaching the conclusion that the correlation curve at an age of 28 days for the range of water/cement ratios between 0.7 to 1 for the quarry "El Gavilán" is fm=-1424.1(a/c)2+ 2079.4(a/c) -537.35, with a coefficient of determination R2 = 0.983 and that the ratio a/c that reaches the maximum resistance is 0.8 with a fm=221.94 kg/cm2, while for the quarry Bazán is fm=306.81(a/c)2-646.04(a/c)+411.52, with a coefficient of determination R2=0.996 and that the ratio a/c that reaches the maximum resistance is 0.7 with a fm=110.02 kg/cm2.
