The current challenge in the field of fertilization is aimed at being more efficient in the use of nutrients and minimizing the environmental impact. The N is the nutrient of greater importance because of the effect it has on the growth of the plants and because there is no mechanism that allows its storage in the soil long relapse its loss at a risk of contamination. The objective of this study was to determine the apparent recovery of nitrogen in conventional fertilizers, controlled and slow release, using rice as an indicator crop under greenhouse conditions. Seven treatments and one control were carried out, with four repetitions, the experimental design used was completely randomized (DCA). The nitrogenous sources were: common urea, urease inhibitor, ammonium sulfate and Agrocote 3M, 4M and 5M. Two doses were used, treatments with conventional fertilizers, urease inhibitor and Agrocote 4M had a dose of 210 mg.kg-1 and treatments with Agrocote 3M, 4M and 5M had a dose of 140 mg.kg-1. In the treatments with conventional fertilizers and urease inhibitor, their application dose was divided in four moments and the treatments with controlled release fertilizers had a single application. The treatments with conventional fertilizers and urease inhibitor presented the highest apparent recovery of nitrogen as well as a greater effect on the evaluated variables (plant height, number of tillers, number of panicles, dry biomass, concentration of N and N extracted by the plant); while, controlled release fertilizers showed the lowest results, but among them the treatment with the highest application dose obtained the highest value. The low apparent recovery of nitrogen in controlled release fertilizers was related to the high temperatures (> 21ºC) that were present, causing rapid release of nutrients.
