Overweight and obesity are public health problems that have been affecting developing countries in the last years. The purchase and consumption of food change because of multiple factors, one of them, the knowledge of calorie information. We run a pre-post study to assess if it exists a change in the purchase of a menu in university students, after finding out he calorie information. To this end, through a convenience sampling we invite 205 students to participate. Six most consumed menus were selected, and, at two different times, the choice was evaluated, the only difference between the first and second test was the calorie information. In order to analyze the change in menu choice, a McNemar test was run. To this effect, menus were grouped into hypercaloric and normo/hypocaloric. According to this, 33 people changed from hypercaloric to normal/hypocaloric menu and 3, in the opposite direction (p <000.1, ORc = 11). A sub-analysis of other co-factors showed us that those subjects who made this positive change (from more to fewer calories) were men. These main results are consistent with other research, which suggests that knowing the calorie information influences the menu purchase decision in university students in a positive way.
