ABSTRACT In any process, whether of manufacturing or service, it is very important to optimize the times, since the cost of the product or the service depends on it, and this is the indicator to know whether or not it is profitable, and also to measure its profitability. In the present work we will investigate if we can improve the machining times of cast stainless steel parts with a hardness varying between 250 and 300 HB in a CNC Machining Center in the company Fundición Callao S.A. To achieve an improvement implementation, it is necessary to know the current values of time and cost of the process. For this, the current information of the machining times has to be lifted for which a format of Daily Report of Work that is going to be filled by the operatives of each machine tool has been implemented, noting everything that happens in their turn: the values of cutting that they are using, the time taken for each machined part and the difficulties that arise. With the information collected from the Daily Work Reports, an evaluation was made to make the improvement proposal for a product that has high rotation, identifying the process, the material and the machine where it is going to work. Then we use the problem-scanning technique of the Ishikawa diagrams, also called Fishbone diagrams, to analyze probable causes that affect machining times. We can apreciate 6 probable causes: tools, employess, surroundings, material, machines and measurements; of all of them we focus on tools, personnel, measurements and material, because they have variables that we can handle at our level. After analyzing the variables, the respective performance tests are done with the support of the tool supplier and, with the reasearcher's experience, the current machining times are improved. With the results obtained in the performance tests, we make the comparison of times and costs with the current values obtained through the Daily Work Reports and we evaluate its economic benefit cost if we implement the proposed improvement.
