--- Objectives: To determine the factors that influenced the abandonment of contraception. Materials and Methods: This is a case - control study which aimed to determine the factors that influenced the abandonment of contraception. This study was conducted at the Hospital San Juan de Lurigancho, between the period of November-December 2015, where 190 postpartum patients who left a contraceptive method (cases) with 88 postpartum patients who did not leave a method (controls) were compared. The associated potential factors analyzed abandonment of contraception association test using the Odd Ratio (OR) and evidence of differences in proportions Chi square. Results: The abandonment of contraception was associated with institutional factors whose value greater influence was associated with the respectful and cordial attitude received by staff of obstetrics during care, with an OR of 4,7 (95% CI 1,6 – 13,8) followed by personal factors whose most influential value was related to the insufficient knowledge by the puerperal concerning contraception, with an OR = 2,222 (95% CI: 1,33 – 3,72), and finally with sociocultural factors and whose most influential value was associated with the responsibility of unplanned pregnancy by the couple with an OR of 2,32 (95% CI 1,4 – 3,9); constituting as possible factors for its development. Conclusions: institutional factors, cultural factors and personal factors are risk factors abandonment of contraception in postpartum women in the Hospital San Juan de Lurigancho. Women who have any of these factors have an increased to abandon the use of the contraceptive risk. Keywords: Factors / Influential / postpartum / neglect / contraception.
