The objective of the present research was to determine the influence of citizen participation processes on the management of urban salid waste generated in the city of Moyobamba. For this purpose, the managemen~ of urban solid waste and citizen participation in salid waste management were analyzed and the relationship between both variables was determined. In the applied research and correlational design a sample of 76 randomly selected people were surveyed to obtain data about the variables and later they received talks about waste management at their homes. With respect to the results, 83% of the residents were not clear about the concepts of waste, garbage and the usefulness that could be given to the waste that they generate, 65% did not have an adequate place in their homes to place their waste, therefore, they did not separate their organic and inorganic waste and onJy 4% of the residents recycled their waste. In terms of civic participation, the conclusion is that it is not effective, which is evidenced by the presence of waste in the streets, especially during the night. This is corroborated by the fact that more than 80% of the residents did not share information regarding the adequate treatment of solid waste or participate in talks about solid waste treatment, 77% did not work in an organized way with the municipal authorities to prevent contamination. Finally, it concluded that there is a high degree of correlation between civic participation and sol id waste management. This result is supported by the fact that in 76 out of every l 00 citizens the management of their solid waste was related to their participation as citizens.
