This study aimed to characterize morphologically and genetically six taxonomic species plus one morphotype of the genus Plukenetia reported for the Peruvian Amazon: P. volubilis, P. brachybotrya, P. loretensis, P. polyadenia, P. huayllabambana, P. carolis-vegae and Plukenetia sp. morphotype Cuzco. For which biological samples were collected from four to six individuals per species and morphotype in the localities of origin of the different species in the Peruvian Amazon (Amazonas, Cusco, Loreto and San Martin regions). For the molecular characterization was performed the nucleotide sequencing of two regions of the genome of these species (nuclear ribosomal ITS region and the chloroplast trnH-psbA region). The analysis of genetic divergence and phylogenetic trees allowed to corroborate the taxonomic identity of five of the six taxonomic species (P. volubilis, P. brachybotrya, P. loretensis, P. polyadenia, P. huayllabambana), in addition to determining which species P. huayllabambana and P. carolis-vegae constitute a single genetic entity (genetic distance = 0.000), is they constitute synonymous species. Unlike P. volubilis and P. volubilis Cuzco morphotype present two different genetic entities (Genetic distance between 0.010 and 0.033), ie would be a new species. Also the taxonomic species P. volubilis, P. huayllabambana and P. carolis-vegae plus Plukenetia sp Cuzco morphotype. They would be forming a monophyletic group (they have a common ancestor).
