Social representations (SR) are the way people apprehend their daily reality and give meaning to different phenomena, taking into account individual experiences but also the information, knowledge and models of thought received and transmitted through tradition, education and social communication. This research aimed to explore the SR of Violence Against Women in a group of allied Local actors of a State's intervention strategy Against Domestic and sexual violence in a rural coastal district. The timeline technique allowed the historical and social contextualization of the district and, also, the constant record from a data logger and participant observation were used to give account of the particularities of the district and participants. To approximate us to the definitions of violence, we used the technique of natural semantic networks with 16 participants and finally we deepened on these results as well as explanations of violence through interviews with six women. It was found that participants approach to violence from an associative line, initially defining it as concrete physical and verbal acts, then to do it from the emotional reactions. We also found that the responsibility of violence’s perpetuation is being attributed to the couple that relates violently, blaming women for not settling lawsuits and exempting from any duty man, attributing the attacks committed on situational factors’.
