The purpose of this investigation is to analyze the possible relationship between personality traits and absenteeism. This study used the totality of employees that work in a public institution of Lima Metropolitana. The Big Five Personality Trait Scale developed by Goldberg (1990) and adapted in the peruvian context by Calderón (2003) and the rate of employees’s absenteeism, from May to July 2017, were utilized. The results show significant and positive correlations among absenteeism and extravertion, agradability, emotional stability and openness meanwhile, there was found a significant and negative correlation with consciousness. These results reveal that a personnel selection approach based in personality tests might be useful to predict absenteeism.
