Abstract: The satisfaction-job performance relationship is one the most researched subjects in the history of organizational behavior. Meta-analytic evidence focuses in two types of satisfaction: job satisfaction and life satisfaction and finds no major difference between them in regard to their relationship with job performance. In contrast, correlational evidence with culturally valid indicators and causal evidence suggest that life satisfaction is a better predictor of performance than job satisfaction. Given that, it becomes of interest to explore from an experimental design which life satisfaction domains are the most influential on performance. Therefore, in the present study the impact of two life satisfaction domains (family, and material status) in performance are compared. In specific, the hypothesis was that the increment in satisfaction with family would have a greater impact in performance than the increment in satisfaction with material status. However, there were no significant differences in performance between the two satisfaction groups and the control group. These results suggest the specific life satisfaction domains (family, and material status) don’t predict performance in experimental conditions while general life satisfaction does. This is also discussed regarding methodological limitations.
