Mainly involving North and South Vietnam, with the support of foreign powers, the study focuses on unraveling the operational strategic elements that determined the course and outcome of the war. The analysis is based on a qualitative approach and utilizes a descriptive historical documentary design, employing operational strategic analysis methodologies. It addresses aspects such as the political-military objective, the operational commander's intent, centers of gravity, critical factors, lines of operations, decisive points, adherence to the principles of war, strategic attitude, employed stratagems, situations of fog and friction, and circumstantial elements in operational design. The research is supported by a robust theoretical base, including references such as "The Vietnam War" by Hastings (2001), "The Army and Vietnam" by Krepinevich (1986), and other relevant texts. Official military planning documents, such as the "Operational Planning Manual – MAPLO 22516" and the "Doctrine of the Joint Planning Process – DFA-CD-05-02", are also analyzed, providing a comprehensive and detailed view of the conflict.
