The present investigation has the general objective of estimating how illegal mining and illicit drug trafficking that are committed in the province of Putumayo, on the Amazon border with Colombia, would influence national security to 2033. The methodology used was qualitative and phenomenological in design; in this sense, interviews were applied to experts from the Armed Forces who performed functions in the Putumayo area (10 Peruvians and one Colombian). The results showed that there is a serious problem in the study area that endangers the internal and external security of Perú, due to the continuous increase in activities linked to illegal mining and illicit drug trafficking, which is aggravated because they act in collusion with transnational armed groups and international drug cartels. It is concluded that by 2023 the Putumayo area could constitute an imminent threat against national security, since it is estimated that illegal activities will increase as has happened for decades, which could affect not only the country but the entire region due mainly to the environmental impact, terrorist violence and population health, which could serve as justification for the intervention of multi-state organizations to stop this situation.
