The research analyzes the Antarctic policies of Argentina and Brazil in 2023, using a qualitative and comparative approach. Categories such as Economic Interests, Sovereignty, Infrastructure and Logistics, Presence and International Cooperation, and Scientific Research are studied to understand the similarities and differences in the approaches of both countries towards Antarctica. The historical dimension and the role of the Antarctic Treaty System in regulating human activities south of the 60° South parallel are considered. The results revealed significant differences in the Antarctic policies of both countries. Argentina and Brazil share a commitment to the conservation of the Antarctic environment but have adopted different approaches in terms of policy implementation. It was identified that Argentina is more proactive and strategic, using its geographical proximity, logistics, and science to gain influence, while Brazil focused on scientific research and international cooperation. Notable differences were also noted in terms of sovereignty: Argentina carries out all its actions with the aim of strengthening its territorial rights on the Antarctic continent, while Brazil advocates for a region without disputes and territorial conflicts. The research provided a detailed understanding of the perceptions and actions of Argentina and Brazil in the Antarctic context, highlighting the importance of a balance between national interests and global participation. Argentina uses science as a means, and Brazil as an end, offering a unique perspective on politics in a continent where science, geopolitics, and conservation are intricately intertwined.
