The prevalence of metabolic syndrome has been increasing in recent years, demonstrating an early age, coming to present their most alarming impact on groups over 45 years. A generally excessive fat, flour and simple sugars coupled with unhealthy life styles inadequate dietary intake will promote the development of abdominal obesity, and excessive accumulation of blood lipids, which are the most contributing factors to the development of metabolic syndrome.This study aimed to determine the influence of dietary intake and lifestyle in the development of metabolic syndrome, type of study is descriptive, correlational and cross-cutting, for which 95 patients were evaluated both sexes between 17 and 65 years, who attended the clinic of the Nutrition clinic at the Hospital of the National Police of Peru, of which, 69.5% were female and 30.5% were male. Nutritional status was assessed by BMI, dietary intake using 24 hours recall and lifestyles by Breslow thickness. The presence of metabolic syndrome was assessed using the criteria of the IDF. The results showed that 81.1% in the study population has metabolic syndrome, also found that the most prevalent criterion was abdominal obesity in the whole population. Importantly, although no significant relationship between dietary intake was found, the lifestyles and the development of metabolic syndrome, the relationship between variables of dietary intake and metabolic syndrome in males showed a positive trend suggesting an increase in sample to show significant results. On the other hand, It is women who have relationship between their lifestyles and the development of metabolic syndrome contrary to what is found in males. However, finding a high prevalence of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular risk, Suggesting the implementation of programs of nutrition education and physical activity in order to control the development of metabolic syndrome.
