The objective of the research was to determine the relationship between family functioning and romantic adult attachment in adults in Metropolitan Lima. The study corresponds to a correlational level, of a basic type, under a non-experimental, retrospective, cross-sectional design. The sample is made up of one hundred fifty-one (151) adults of both sexes, aged between 31 and 59 years. The sampling method was non-probabilistic given the limitations due to the pandemic situation (2020). To measure romantic adult attachment, the Experiences in Close Relationships-Revised (ECR-R) test was applied (Nóblega et al., 2018), and to assess family functioning, the Family Cohesion and Adaptability Scale (FACES III) was used (Reusche,1994). The results show that there is a significant inverse relationship between family functionality and avoidant romantic adult attachment styles (r = -.42**, p =.01) and anxious romantic adult attachment (r = -.22*, p =.04). This corroborates that the type of romantic adult attachment is related to the bonds established by boys and girls with their main caregivers, explaining adult affective relationships from the bond learned and normalized in childhood.
