The purpose of this research is to compare the level of fear of children from nuclear families to that of children from single-parent families. The research is on a descriptive level, basic with a non-experimental design. The sample consisted of 79 students of both sexes, between 6 and 9 years of age ranging from first graders to third graders in the Primary Level of a public school in Lima. The instrument used was The Fear Schedule Survey for Children II (FSSC II) adapted in Spanish by Ascencio et al. (2012). Hypotheses were formulated reaching the following conclusions: the fear in children from the single-parent family is statistically similar to children from the nuclear family. As well, both groups of children have a medium level of fear and the main dimension is fear of death or danger. Also, other results show that there is a highly significant difference in the dimensions of fear of animals or injuries, fear of the unknown and medical fears in first graders.
