The study of survival in hemodialysis has been done more frequently in recent years. The survival rate has increased due to an improvement in the procedure itself, but it has also been observed that the swelling and malnutrition chronic complications are associated with the morbidity and mortality in those patients. The main goal of this investigation was to establish the connection between the nutritional status and how long the patient has been under hemodialysis by using a descriptive, extended time observation-based field study, where anthropometry, analytical and food daily intake benchmarks were used. The sample consisted of 62 patients who went to the dialysis clinic and who fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Microsoft Excel 8.0 version was used for the data processing while the statistic program SPSS 15.0 version was used for variable analysis. The results were given in media, dispersal and percentage statistics. The variable association was estimated by the chi-squared test. The results showed that the nutritional benchmarks, weight variables, arm circumference, subjective overall evaluation, albumin and protein intake do not have any correlation with hoe long the patient was under hemodialysis. However, the arm muscle circumference, tríceps skinfold thickness and the caloric intake had a negative correlation with how long the been under the treatment, having this results: p = 0.045, p = 0.027 and p = 0.034 respectively. The BMI dropped as the time passed and even though it did not show any correlation with malnutrition, this slow and continuing fall can lead to nutritional damage. 22.6% of patients with less than 5 years in hemodialysis showed malnutrition, 29.4% of patients with 6-10 in hemodialysis also showed malnutrition and 42.9% of patients with more than 11 years had the same nutritional diagnosis. As a conclusion, the nutritional status of the patients worsen due to how long they have been under hemodialysis, increasing the percentage of malnourished patients with more than 11 years under treatment.
